BLOOMER, WI August 29, 2026
The amateur radio community gathered at the Bloomer Fair Grounds on August 29, 2026, for the annual Chippewa Valley Amateur Radio Club (CVARC) Hamfest, recognized as an official ARRL Hamfest. Featuring the W9CVA/R repeater operations, great fellowship, and technical exchanges, the event brought together operators from across the region to celebrate the hobby.
Talkpod was honored to support this year’s gathering through the Talkpod Youth Amateur Program. Our mission is to break down barriers to entry and inspire young makers to take their first steps onto the airwaves.
A Moment to Remember: Empowering a Young Operator
The true heart of amateur radio lies in welcoming new blood into the community. Following the event, we received a deeply touching letter from Chip Eckardt (W9OQI), sharing a standout moment from the hamfest:
"Thank you for the donations. We had a 13 year old who just passed her Tech Exam at our hamfest. She was delighted to get one of your Talkpods! Thanks again. You made her day. She will always remember passing her exam and the radio she received."
Hearing stories like this validates everything we strive to achieve with the Youth Amateur Program. Providing accessible, high-performance equipment to a newly licensed 13-year-old technician operator creates a core memory that can spark a lifelong passion for science, technology, and global communication.
Building the Future, One Operator at a Time
At Talkpod, we believe that investing in young hams is investing in the future stability and innovation of wireless communications. We extend our warmest congratulations to the young technician who aced her exam, and a sincere thank you to Chip Eckardt, the CVARC Hamfest Committee, and all the organizers who worked tirelessly to make the 2026 event an overwhelming success.
We look forward to hearing many more young voices on the airwaves soon!
