My first impressions was that the radio does seem quite rugged and able to stand a certain amount of abuse. I wasn't too keen on the lime green colour, but I accept that in an emergency, or at night the radio should be really easy to find due to the bright lime green casing.

The radio does come complete with a lanyard, belt clip and other accessories as listed below. The screw in airial is quite long, it is made from flexible rubber so is unlikely to break. The supplied battery clips into the rear of the radio, it is removed by pulling down on two tabs. This can be charged using the charging stand, cable, or the battery can be removed for charging. The battery is lithium-ion and has a capacity of 3200 mAh.

I can find no information of how water resistant this is, there is no mention that I could find in the user guide or on the Amazon listing. But as this is recommended for use whilst sailing, it must have a certain amount of water resistance. There is a rubber seal around where the battery makes contact with the radio, plus the connector ports are protected by a waterproof silicone seal. So as an educated guess, I would say this would be ok being used in wet conditions, but I would try to keep it dry just in case.

This has a multitude of buttons and knobs which I have to be honest, I don't fully understand, even after reading through the user guide. But I'm sure, if you are looking at this then you will know of it's functions. I could mention all of the features, but I would only be repeating what has already been said in the Amazon listing. I do like the idea of an 8 mile range, plus this has 999 channels, so you should be able to easily find a free channel to operate on. The SOS function sounds like a must have, especially if out hiking or sailing.

Overall though, a rugged looking well made two way radio. At £45.99, this doesn't seem a bad deal to me. For less than £100 (2 units), you can keep in touch with friends or family whilst out for the day hiking, sailing, or other activity.
