Empowering the Next Generation of Operators: Talkpod Youth Amateur Program at the 2026 WCARS Hamfest

WAYNESVILLE, NC July 25, 2026

The scenic Smoky Mountains provided the perfect backdrop for a weekend of technical exchange, community building, and wireless innovation. On July 25, 2026, the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society (WCARS) hosted their highly anticipated 2026 WCARS Hamfest at the Smokey Mountain Event Center.

As a steadfast supporter of the global amateur radio community, Talkpod was thrilled to bring the Talkpod Youth Amateur Program to this officially sanctioned ARRL Hamfest, continuing our mission to nurture the innovators of tomorrow.

Bridging the Generational Gap in Amateur Radio

The WCARS Hamfest has long been a cornerstone event for operators across North Carolina and the broader region, featuring excellent fellowship, technical forums, and a highly active talk-in on the 147.39+ (PL 94.8) repeater. For Talkpod, supporting this event was about more than just showcasing our latest hardware—it was a direct investment in the future of the hobby.

Through the Talkpod Youth Amateur Program, we are dedicated to breaking down the barriers to entry for young makers, STEM students, and newly licensed technicians. At the 2026 WCARS Hamfest, our initiatives focused on:

Supporting Local Clubs: Partnering directly with established organizations like WCARS to help them attract, mentor, and retain younger members.
Providing Accessible Technology: Introducing attendees to intuitive, high-performance Talkpod devices designed to make getting on the air both easy and exciting for beginners.
Encouraging STEM Education: Sparking curiosity in radio frequency engineering, electronics, and global connectivity among the next generation.

A Heartfelt Thank You to the WCARS Community

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Randy Harris (KI4VLW), the entire Hamfest Committee, and the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society for organizing such a phenomenal and welcoming event. The passion, expertise, and willingness to share knowledge displayed by the seasoned operators in Waynesville are exactly what make the amateur radio community so resilient and special.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to discuss the future of the hobby with us. Talkpod remains fully dedicated to empowering young hams worldwide, and we look forward to hearing many new voices from Western Carolina on the airwaves very soon!
