Engineering the Future of Amateur Radio: Inside Talkpod’s Weekend at the 2026 Northeast HamXposition

MARLBOROUGH, MA August 13-16, 2026

From August 13 to August 16, 2026, the Best Western Royal Plaza & Trade Center transformed into the epicenter of New England’s tech and radio community. Hosted by FEMARA, Inc., the Northeast HamXposition (the official ARRL New England Division Convention) brought together thousands of engineers, makers, and communication enthusiasts for four days of immersive technical exchange.

For Talkpod, missing a premier convention like this was out of the question. We were on the ground with the Talkpod Youth Amateur Program, driven by a single mission: to ensure the future of wireless technology is in capable, inspired hands.

Why the Youth Program Matters at Major Conventions

While Talkpod is globally recognized for engineering rugged, mission-critical hardware for B2B sectors and professionals, our roots are deeply embedded in the amateur radio community. We understand that today's tinkering teenager is tomorrow's lead RF engineer.

However, diving into amateur radio can feel overwhelming for a newcomer. By bringing our Youth Amateur Program to large-scale conventions like the HamXposition, we aim to clear the static. Our on-site focus included:

Hands-On Hardware Access: Getting modern, intuitive Talkpod transceivers directly into the hands of young attendees and newly licensed operators, proving that premium connectivity can be highly accessible.
Empowering the Mentors: Equipping seasoned "Elmers" with the right tools to teach digital modes and modern RF concepts to the younger generation.
Building Community Ties: Strengthening our relationships with massive regional networks and local clubs to support continuous STEM education long after the convention doors close.

The Convention Vibe

The energy in Marlborough was unparalleled. The airwaves were buzzing, perfectly coordinated via the impressive Minuteman Repeater linked system, demonstrating the true power of regional radio infrastructure.

Between the high-level ARRL forums, the extensive vendor halls, and the vibrant swap meets, the best part of our weekend was the face-to-face interaction. Whether it was discussing the nuances of digital mobile radio with veteran operators or watching a young student make their first successful over-the-air contact, the passion in New England is undeniably contagious.

A Sincere Thank You

Executing a multi-day convention of this scale requires monumental effort. We want to extend a massive thank you to Bob DeMattia (K1IW) and the entire dedicated team at FEMARA, Inc. for organizing a flawless event.

To the New England amateur radio community: thank you for welcoming us, sharing your expertise, and helping us empower the next generation of makers. We are already looking forward to next year's HamXposition!
