OWENSVILLE, OH August 15, 2026
On August 15, 2026, the Clermont County Fairgrounds came alive with the sound of signals, technical chatter, and community connection. Hosted by the Milford Amateur Radio Club, the Cincinnati Hamfest℠ proudly served as the official ARRL Great Lakes Division Convention, drawing operators, engineers, and makers from across the Midwest.
For Talkpod, events of this scale are where the pulse of the amateur radio community beats the strongest. We were thrilled to be on the ground in Ohio, bringing the Talkpod Youth Amateur Program directly to the convention floor to support the next era of wireless innovators.
Cultivating the Next Generation of Makers
While Talkpod engineers premium communication solutions for global commercial and enterprise sectors, we never lose sight of where foundational RF innovation begins: local radio clubs and dedicated hobbyists. However, the leap into amateur radio can often feel daunting for young students and STEM enthusiasts.
Our Youth Amateur Program is built to eliminate those barriers. By bringing the program to premier events like the ARRL Great Lakes Division Convention, we focused on:
Accessible Connectivity: Putting modern, user-friendly Talkpod radios into the hands of young, newly licensed operators so they can experience the thrill of global communication without the steep learning curve.
Empowering Local Mentors: Supporting the veteran "Elmers" who dedicate their time to teaching the next generation, providing them with reliable hardware to demonstrate modern analog and digital modes.
Fueling STEM Passion: Connecting with youth attendees to spark a lasting interest in radio frequency engineering, electronics, and emergency communications.
The Convention Vibe
The atmosphere in Owensville was nothing short of electric. With operators seamlessly coordinating arrivals over the 147.345 MHz (123.0 Hz) talk-in frequency, the event was a masterclass in regional radio infrastructure.
Between the bustling swap tables, the high-level ARRL forums, and the hands-on tech demonstrations, the highlight of our day was engaging directly with the Ohio ham community. Whether we were gathering feedback on our latest firmware from seasoned veterans or watching a young maker light up at their first successful transmission, the passion in the Great Lakes Division is truly inspiring.
A Massive Thank You
Hosting a division-level ARRL convention is a monumental task that requires serious dedication. We want to extend a massive thank you to Ronald Brooks (AC8MA) and the entire hard-working team at the Milford Amateur Radio Club for putting together such a flawless and welcoming event.
To the Ohio amateur radio community: thank you for sharing your expertise, your stories, and your commitment to keeping the airwaves vibrant. We look forward to catching you on the air soon!
